WHERE
TO STAY AND EAT IN MOYOGALPA
In
Moyogalpa you will find a broad variety of hotels, hostels, restaurants
and family-run diners or comedores suitable for all budgets and
needs.
After disembarking at the port, walk straight ahead and you will
find Hotel Ometepetl, offering twelve rooms with private bathrooms,
air conditioning or fans. This hotel also provides restaurant
services, transport and a gift shop.
Economy
lodgings can be found at Hotel Arenas Negras, Hotelito Ali, Hospedaje
Casa Familiar and Los Ranchitos, all of which have clean rooms
with basic accommodations and private or shared bathrooms. You
may also find a la carte food services or the home-cooked local
cuisine offered in family-run diners. Take advantage of your stay
on the island to enjoy the wide variety of natural fruit juices
that hotels and restaurants include on their menus at very reasonable
prices.
WHERE
TO STAY AND EAT IN ALTAGRACIA
Keep in mind that the municipality
of Altagracia is the most extensive on the island, and most of
the tourist attractions are found dispersed around the municipality.
For this reason, we recommend that you stay in different areas.
In order to facilitate understanding, we
have divided the municipality into the following regions: Charco
Verde, the urban center, Playa Santo Domingo, Balgüe, Mérida and
San Ramón.
Within the municipality’s urban center,
there are different lodging options with basic but clean and comfortable
facilities.
Posada Cabrera faces the north side of
Altagracia’s central park, and Casa Hospedaje Ortíz is located
only a few blocks away. Other options within the urban shell include
Hotel Central and Hotel Castillo, offering rooms with private
bathrooms from USD$10 to USD$30.
In terms of hotel infrastructure, the area
around Playa Santo Domingo is one of the most developed. It offers
hostels, inns and hotels of different categories, along with cabañas
facing the beach.
Among the most popular along the beach
are Hotel Villa Paraíso, Hotel Finca Santo Domingo, Hotel Costa
Azul and Hotel Kabañas, all offering rooms with air conditioning,
private bathrooms, hot water and complementary services. Other
more economical options include Hospedaje Gloriana, the Santa
Cruz restaurant / lodge at the crossroads to Balgüe, and Hospedaje
Así es mi Tierra in Balgüe.
In the community of Mérida, there are two
options for food and lodging:
Hacienda Mérida, an old coffee farm with
dormitory-style lodging or rooms with private or shared bathrooms.
Hacienda Mérida is well known for its lunch and dinner buffets,
featuring exquisite dishes and vegetarian options.
Hotel y Restaurante La Omaja is located
some 100 meters southeast of Hacienda Mérida. A complex of luxurious
cabins built on beautiful terraces, it offers spectacular views
of Lake Cocibolca and Concepción Volcano.
In San Ramón, you can opt to stay at the
biological station, on of the largest infrastructures for food
and shelter on the island. The biological station is found at
the starting point of the path to the San Ramón Waterfall, one
of the most interesting excursions available.
